Dr. Watson misspelled Treptoff in A Scandal in Bohemia when he wrote about Sherlock Holmes and his "summons to Odessa in the case of the Trepoff murder.” Guess who summoned Uncle Sherlock to Ukraine? Tzar Nicolas II of Russia! The summons letter is here in The Sherlock Holmes Archives.
Dr. Watson wrote Trepoff, it should have been Treptoff. Germany’s General Treptoff battled
Napoleon at Waterloo and Treptoff Square in Berlin holds the Tomb of the Unknown
Soviet Soldier of WW II.
