Zimbabwe: Zimbabwe Lumber Company

Commission. A family timber business in Zimbabwe employing some 320 people. Lumber graded to ISO 9000
standards. Exporting to Europe and the Middle East. They grow, mill and export pine for the building and
furniture industries, using a range of mobile saw mills and fixed kilns. Established in 1952, started by planting
pine trees on the slopes of the highest mountain in the eastern highlands what was then Rhodesia, now
Zimbabwe. Now the family has 1,000 acres of its own trees, and another 1,000 acres of timber under contract.
Zimbabwean pine is almost indistinguishable from South African pine. It is mostly Pinus Patula or Pinus Taeda,
both sought after for furniture manufacture and structural purposes. Standards specifications are identical with
those of South Africa, and conform to international requirements. Costs of production are low enough to offset
high transportation costs, and quality controls are excellent. A very good bargain, email for a quote and see.
PRODUCT RANGE: They grow pine, largely Pinus Patula, or Southern Yellow Pine), both their own and under
contract. Timber is milled to ISO 9002 standards. SPECIFICATIONS: millimeters (mm), centimetres (cm), metres
(m), and cubic metres (cbm). SIZES: Cut to the following sizes, special orders for loads of 110 cbm and above:
Rough Sawn: Thicknesses: 25mm, 38mm, 50mm, 76mm, 102mm. Widths: 38mm, 50mm, 76mm, 102mm, 114mm,
152mm, 228mm. Lengths: 0.90m to 6.60m in 300mm increments. Special lengths can be fingerjointed to customers
requirements for 30 cbm or more. GRADES: SAZ 334, SAZ 335 and SAZ 336, which comply with ISO 9002. The
standards include strictures as to stress grades, moisture content and knots, and all graded timber is therefore
dried to the requisite specification for each grade. These grades are: 1. Clear Grades: select grade and furniture
grade used for furniture manufacture. 2. Industrial Grade: for furniture and light industrial purposes. Main
consumers: coffin and pallet manufacturers. 3. Structural Grades: used exclusively by the building industry.
PACKAGING: Shipments are containerized. Quotations are normally for unwrapped shipment. Plastic wrapped
bundles incur a surcharge of US $4.50 per cubic metre. Quotations for specialized packaging will be supplied on
request. PRICES: Will quote on whatever basis required. Specify end use for which the timber is required, and
the degree of sophistication of packaging and freight desired. All quotes CIF your port in US$ unless otherwise
